Vivek George, the Founder of Your Design is one of the most refreshing personalities of Bangalore. While, we were asking our parents for pocket money, he was thinking of ways to earn the bucks himself. In college, he was elected as class representative, which eventually led him to his entrepreneurial journey. As a class representative one of his responsibilities was to get t-shirts made for his class. He was a people friendly person so he took up the responsibility of other classes as well. At this juncture, Vivek had taken upon himself the job of printing t-shirts for a couple of classes. After successfully delivering t-shirts to the respective classes, he started to realize the potential of the customized t-shirt printing industry.

Today, Vivek has grown from class orders to premier company orders. He manages a team of around 20 employees and things are brighter than ever for Your Design. Like other entrepreneurs Vivek too had his share of ups and downs. “I started out all alone. I made many mistakes on this wonderful journey, which taught me a lot about the business and myself. I travelled to Chennai and Ludhiana to understand more about the fabric and material. It was all new to me, but I knew there was going to be something beautiful at the end of it and that’s what drove me everyday towards my goal.”

Vivek’s parents are mighty proud of their son, but it was not a fairy tale story from the start. Initially, Vivek had no support from his parents. Vivek had to create the business with his own funds. He didn’t despise his parents approach to his business idea, because he understood the mentality of society. “I belong to a traditional Malayali family, where parents expect their children to graduate into engineers or doctors or at the minimum have a professional degree or a masters degree. When I explained to them about my idea, they were embarrassed about my decision. They found comparison of selling banyans instead of viewing my idea as a unique concept that could bring in a lot of success,” Vivek says about how his parents looked at his idea.

Vivek started to see success and lot of money at a young age. He started living a high-flying life, which was impacting his health. “I needed to get back discipline into my life. I had this troubling back pain that was really worrying me, because I was too young to have such pain. I decided to get my act together through fitness and healthy food.” Today Vivek’s fitness regime has earned him fitness instructor jobs with premium gym in the city. He is a certified RPM instructor and trains people to live a healthier and fitter life through his story. Vivek works 6 days a week for 6 months and the other 6 months he spends time travelling and exploring the world. He has covered five and four countries in Europe and Asia respectively.

As Your Design grew leaps and bounds, Vivek’s parents started to believe in their son. They were immensely proud of his achievements and even started to contribute to the company in their free time. During the period of growth, Vivek’s mother encouraged him to do an MBA, as she believed the MBA background would add more value and credibility to his already successful business. Vivek was reluctant in the start, but gradually he decided to pursue an MBA from the prestigious Christ University. In retrospect, Vivek was glad to have listened to his mother’s advice, as it helped him build new networks and learn things that he could apply to his work.

Once I started working out, I was more active and involved with decision making and planning. It was hard in the beginning, but after 21 days it became a ritual. Cycling and trekking are things that I am extremely passionate about. Cycling has become a part of my success mantra and I would encourage people reading this to give a lot of attention to fitness.”

Vivek attributes a lot of his success to the discipline his fitness regime brought in. “Once I started working out, I was more active and involved with decision making and planning. Discipline and focus have been the foundation stones of Vivek’s success story. He has learned most from failure and whenever he falls, he always come back stronger.
