When you become Jack-of-all-trades and King of Opus, you know you’re living the life that most dream of. Dheeraj Kumar lives a life that has the rhythmic beats of a good life thumping all over it – first, as a guitarist of the band Bleed that made waves all over the country, while he was still in college; then as a software engineer for a Hollywood post-production studio; then working in the media production house Lighthunters; then Smash Out – an event company; then as a co-founder of Happy People Festival; and then he testified his love for music with pulsating music as a DJ at Ice, Vivanta.
But for now he is a superstar who is making many of us happy with his grand, big plans at Opus Out of the Box, Whitefield. As the CEO and Managing Partner of this hip gastro-bar, he and his team make each day and especially Fridays a hell of a party experience. He says, “We make a lot of people happy and create memories that last forever… And we do this every day… But on Fridays we take it to the next level.”
Dheeraj took hold of the reins of Opus Out of The Box (OOTB) after the previous owner Mr. Braganza decided to take a step back to focus on other verticals such as his own singing career. Dheeraj, at the “tender” age of 26 felt he could easily retire at 28, ‘cause how hard running a pub could possibly be? To which just a year later, the upstanding pub owner now passionately expresses that all pub owners should be hailed as Superheroes!

Running a pub has not a single day of monotony, so, some days he thoroughly wishes he could push that pause button from all the exhaustion.
OOTB, Dheeraj says, has retained all the good things from its parent, Opus at Palace Grounds. He says, “We’ve tried to up the ante by focusing real hard on the live entertainment, food, beverage and service. Other than that the only difference between Opus at Palace Road and Opus Out of The Box is that one was at Palace Road and the other is at Whitefield.” He says that OOTB is all new and grand, built from scratch by another budding entrepreneur in the design and architectural world, Ms. Milanjeet Bhullar.
Ms. Bhullar is not the only young entrepreneur whom Dheeraj has collaborated with to bring a new colour to the city’s entertainment. If things go as planned, Dheeraj and his team will have the pleasure to host the vivacious, brilliant and highly acclaimed singer Usha Uthup, at Opus Out of The Box, sometime around December. She will also be singing for the canonization of Mother Teresa in the The Vatican on the 4th of September this year. Dheeraj is very excited to host Usha Uthup and share her virtuoso with other happy music lovers in Bangalore.
Making everyone happy though takes a toll on our superhero. Even though his life may look like a vacation from the outside, he sometimes feels he could do with a break from his upbeat lifestyle. With all the noise and hustle–bustle, he now says lazy days on a quiet South-Goa beach or a spa day are the best type of vacations for him. The food business and entertainment industry, and living an entrepreneur’s life may look like a big, beautiful bed of roses with lots of wine, but Dheeraj says, “You must have balls of steel and be able to work inhuman hours, and smile and be hospitable even when shit hits the roof.”

Dheeraj has managed to really live a life we usually read as quotes on Facebook or Twitter, but it is not because he was handed it on a golden plate or that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth; it is because he had the immense courage to take that “Out of the Box” step. He lives his life as a big adventure. Dheeraj is Bold. Dheeraj is Brave. Be like Dheeraj.
