They say everything happens for a reason. In Roshni Sanghvi’s case, no prediction has had more of an impact as devastating and rewarding as her relationship with fitness, and when life’s idiosyncrasies pushed her in the direction of untold possibilities she stood tall and rose to all the challenges that were thrown at her.
Trained in Clinical Psychology in New York, Roshni describes fitness as a beautiful accident. In a jocose tone, she talks about her life changing experience in the Big Apple—regaling stories of an overprotected childhood, her first taste of freedom, financial responsibilities, and the phone call that changed her life.
While pursuing her Bachelor’s, thousands of miles away from home, she received devastating news of her father’s illness and flew back to face her responsibilities. “At that time you do not think about how things happen for good. I was scared and anxious. Given no choice, I started looking after the family business—Fitness Centers,” she says.
Roshni’s journey was a lacuna of inexperience, coupled with the memory of an unhealthy childhood. With no one to guide her, she experienced a few failures before she went on to earn a certification in fitness, and eventually take seminars and workshops all over the city. Of all the pitfalls, she recalls her last-ditch effort to get in shape by signing up with one of India’s top dietitians. After 2 months of strenuous efforts, she gained an extra 5 kilos. “I remember crying uncontrollably in one of the sessions with the dietitian saying that this was my last resort to lose weight and I did not know what else to do.” she says. Roshni now devotes her time to spreading awareness to those who have been duped by marketing.
I remember crying uncontrollably in one of the sessions with the dietitian saying that this was my last resort to lose weight and I did not know what else to do.”
Spending sleepless night piled with deadlines, and 6 AM client meetings, her drive is fuelled by her determination to introduce people to the world of fitness. Her passion to excel has also led her to renowned experts in the field like Jim Stoppani and Kris Gethin.
Roshni is an active member of ‘Vegans of Bangalore’ and occasionally conducts free seminars to spread awareness about the common misconceptions about proteins. Believing that achieving washboard abs on a vegan diet is not only possible but also healthier. “It inspires me to work on my physique even harder,” she says.
“My life and experiences have been my biggest inspiration. When I was transforming, I did not have many role models to look up to. I want to be that role model people can look up to for the right guidance.”
With a flourishing family business, she credits her parents for giving her their full support. “I have been blessed with the most supportive parents. They have never questioned me regarding my career choices but have stood by me no matter what,” she says.
When you have a goal, you have to give up on self- image, ego and everything to chase it. You maybe very well known in your bubble but with every new challenge you take up, you are again, a stranger in the land of surprises. That’s ok! Get out of that bubble. Trust me, it’s worth it!”
She aims to compete as a vegan athlete in 2017 and be recognized as a vegan transformation specialist all around the world.
Her future, a myriad of obstacles, is one she takes with grit and a warrior spirit. To those trying to pursue their passion she asserts, “When you have a goal, you have to give up on self- image, ego and everything to chase it. You maybe very well known in your bubble but with every new challenge you take up, you are again, a stranger in the land of surprises. That’s ok! Get out of that bubble. Trust me, it’s worth it!”
