Shekhar Vijayan: entertainer, sports presenter, stand-up comedian, scriptwriter, blogger, influencer, motivational speaker, fitness expert and poet all rolled into one. Phew! But perhaps his most inspiring achievement is his personal battle of getting from ‘fat to fit’.
How did it happen? He says, “My moment of truth was when the commode, and a plastic chair I sat on broke, resulting in sardonic jokes being cracked on my astronomical weight gain. I realised I don’t want to live a life where I weigh 125 kilos and measure 46 inches on the waist with no clothes fitting me.” Once that realisation struck, there was no stopping Shekhar. He took to running, cleaned up his diet by eliminating junk food and caffeine. His determination ensured that he kept at his fitness regime, without looking back. The result has been life-changing. Talking about how he feels, he says, “I love this phase I am in, I am 40 kilos lighter, fitting into clothes that I used to wear when I was in college. I am 32 inches on the waist and have the stamina to take on the world.”
Despite it being an arduous task, Shekhar’s positive thinking, patience and will to keep raising the bar has kept him motivated.

Shekhar is a source of inspiration in more than one way. His weight-loss journey aside, he is successful in multiple careers, committing to each one passionately. “I strongly believe if you love what you do and do what you love in letter and spirit, you will enjoy every moment of it. This is my career and I believe it’s a niche one as it’s not just about skill sets but also maximising your potential.”
To be a master of all his trades, where does Shekhar draw inspiration from? Answering the question, he says, “My biggest sources of inspiration are kids and my golden retriever Sunshine. They do everything with complete honesty, cheer and unbridled enthusiasm.” Being a creative soul, he is always buzzing with ideas. His sharp and perceptive mind makes him a keen observer of people and his surroundings, leading to an uninhibited flow of original thoughts.
Shekhar’s weight-loss story hasn’t gone unnoticed. He is currently working with a top Bollywood production house on it. And there is also leading publisher interested in bringing out his story as a book. Speaking of his future plans, he says, “I want to inspire people around the world and travel more. I am just getting started.”

He advises others not to be bogged down by their past, but instead focus on the future. “I am the best example of someone whose past is not an indicator of what the future holds. Right now I can say I have no fear and I am game for anything and everything.”
