Sabrina Suhail is one of Bangalore’s most renowned make-up artists. She has worked with several celebrities and designers. Apart from bridal make-up, she lends her talent for ad shoots as well. Quite recently she did the hair and make-up of our very own Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik for an automobile ad.
Was being a make-up artist always her dream? Explaining how she got into it, Sabrina says, “After studying science in college and realising that chemistry wasn’t really good to me, I switched to fine arts in CKP after which I joined an event management company. I wasn’t happy there and wanted to explore what the world had to offer. I dipped my fingers into tarot reading, fitness training and graphic design. I kept exploring for about 5-6 years. One day my mom suggested I try my hand at make-up, and here I am 9 years later sharing my knowledge.”

While Sabrina is wildly successful today, she has had falls along the way. “The first time I attended to a client, she walked out on her wedding day while I was doing her make-up despite having done a trial. That shook me. I questioned myself and my talent. But, I thank her for doing that because if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have practiced harder and perfected my work.” Kudos to her for not losing heart and giving up, instead she chose to turn this negative experience into a source of motivation to become better.
Sabrina’s talent alone is enough to draw in clients. “I believe that if you’re good at what you do, your clients do your marketing for you.” Word of mouth being her primary marketing strategy, she also has a team who handles her social media presence. Sabrina is proof, that there is no substitute for quality work.

Sabrina’s genuine concern for her clients is what makes her a hit with them. “On an auspicious day I take only 1 wedding appointment, I prefer giving that client my time without her being rushed. There are some artists that take 4-5 clients a day, and if 1 client is late, the artist doesn’t attend to her. I think this is completely unfair. During weddings, things get delayed and a make-up artist should be the one to make her client feel calm and beautiful.”
A second passion for Sabrina is animals. She hopes to one day become a veterinarian. Given her caring nature, the animals would be in good hands. At the moment though, Sabrina is working on starting her own academy.
Just like she did, Sabrina advises others to pursue their passion, “Follow your heart. Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.”

A few misses, but Sabrina Suhail eventually found her calling. An initial set-back didn’t deter her, if anything it made her the star she is today. She didn’t quit, she didn’t give up, she didn’t look back. A Bold soul to be inspired by.
