Making people LOL with his 2 minute videos – Zubair Sarookh, a comedic talent to watch out for

in Entertainment by

What started out as a mere interest has turned into a serious passion. Zubair Sarookh famous for his short video sketches has steadily gained a huge following in a short time. That’s proof of just how good he is. His comedy sketches are particularly popular because of the relatable and simple scenarios depicted.

Zubair got into comedy entertainment purely by chance, and he continued to pursue it simply because it made him happy. He says, “I wasn’t always inclined towards comedy, I was a very shy student during school. I had zero confidence about doing anything. But last year I recorded a video and posted it, and it got 1.7 million views on Facebook. I was shocked! People were sending me messages asking me to make more videos, and telling me how I made them smile. Knowing that I was the reason for someone’s smile made me really happy so I decided then that I wanted to make people smile.” Buoyed by this popularity he started his YouTube channel.

Personal difficulties, be it his struggle with depression or the lack of support from family, nothing has stopped Zubair from doing what he loves.  He says, “There was a period of 3-4 months where I stopped making videos. I was depressed due to some personal problems and there weren’t many people supporting me, but I didn’t give up because if you give up you can’t prove people wrong.”

In this era of social media, where access to a ready audience is easy, there are many comedians competing to make it big. Zubair doesn’t let that bother him.  “There are many people who make videos. But what will make you stand out from the rest is your originality and humour. We’re trying to make people happy and smile, so I don’t see others as my competition.”

Zubair gets ideas for his sketches by observing situations around him, and figuring how he can infuse his style of humour into them to create an entertaining piece.

Content with going with the flow, Zubair says, “I don’t really have a future plan so I don’t know but yeah I enjoy making people smile and laugh, and I shall continue doing that.”

Hardships make one stronger and wiser. Zubair passes on his wisdom to those wanting to get into comedy and/or acting, “Stay original and never give up on your dreams. Ignore the hate. If you can’t handle criticism then this industry is not for you.”

Sometimes the reason is as simple as: It makes you happy. Whatever your journey, whatever your motivation, whatever your drive; you have to be willing to stick it out, and look past the criticism to be successful. Zubair Sarookh did just that, and look where he is now.
