Ariana Savalas takes the stage with the intention of fascinating, awakening and thrilling the audience. Every performance of hers charges the air with an electric current that makes you shiver with excitement.
Hailing from a family of talented artists, Ariana’s ties with music goes way back. She says, “It’s hard to remember a time I wasn’t shamelessly singing for anyone who would listen! Almost every member of my family is an artist of some sort. So growing up in my house, music and art were everywhere. My fate was inevitable.” Music alone isn’t her forte; she displays her witty streak when describing her first performance, “The first time I sang in public was for my preschool Christmas nativity play. I was the cow, it was the highlight of my career.”
The music business is like sex, sometimes it’s amazing and sometimes you just get screwed!”
A lousy first gig in Los Angeles when she moved to be a singer is what Ariana remembers as being a down-in-the-dumps moment. But she moved past all those difficult times and plodded on. And here she is today, tantalising audiences with her explosive performances.
Ariana’s contrasting influences in music have inspired her unique performances. She explains, “There are two sides to me, the songwriter and the performer. My father was born in the 20’s, so I grew up listening to the Rat Pack, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, all of the greats. From my mother my songwriting influences were rockers, the Beatles, Queen, George Michael, Annie Lennox, David Bowie. Colorful, vibrant, sparkling, over-the-top geniuses. My influences from both eras do have one thing in common, they were entertainers. And pure entertainment like that is timeless. So we created a show that is inspired by these brilliant acts of the past; and hopefully will be timeless in its own right.”

For Ariana music is a way to channelize inner emotional turmoil and pain into a bright, larger-than-life performance that resonates with the audience while also making them laugh. She elaborates, “By writing songs and maybe even getting a laugh or two, I can make light out of the darkness in my life. And other people who have had similar circumstances can come to the show and laugh along. There is something cathartic about it.”
As a part of Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ), Ariana is ecstatic that the music they create has only been growing in popularity. And she believes it proves that in an age of instant gratification people are craving something authentic and real. Speaking about PMJ, she says, “PMJ started with live recordings in Scott Bradlee’s basement and has now turned into a worldwide sensation. It is so inspiring to be a part of this musical renaissance.”
Not one to be caught peddling boring advice, Ariana keeps it real, but with a sense of humour, “The music business is like sex, sometimes it’s amazing and sometimes you just get screwed!”
