Arunaja is one of the Top 3 singers of season 2 of The Stage. You would be surprised at the powerful vocals that come out of this tiny frame. Arunaja considers her talent a gift from God, one that has a brave personality, much like her own. She has fought every odd to get to where she is.
Vishal Dadlani said, “Just by looking at you I can confidently put my money on you, because I see the light and glow on your face.” Damn…those words… I hadn’t even started singing at that point.”
Singing from the age of 3, Arunaja nurtured her talent with great dedication. She is trained in Indian Carnatic classical music. In her college years she was introduced to western music, which led to her joining the Cochin based choir group called ‘Rock of Ages’, in which she performs as a soloist and soprano voice. As a vocalist she is influenced by Gospel, Old-school pop, Rock, R&B, Blues, and Contemporary pop.
Arunaja’s devotion to music and her faith in God are what keep her going despite all the difficulties. “Music is my passion. It is my second love, God being the first. I never expect anything from things or people that I love. Expectation can ruin things. So I just make sure to do my best. Rest everything is taken care of. I just do it because my soul needs it!”
Excitedly describing her experience on season 2 of The Stage, Arunaja says, “The Stage 2 has given me enough and more memories to cherish for the rest of my life. But the best would be when I performed my audition song as a Top 50 participant. I performed the song ‘Chandelier’ by Sia. This song is hard to pull off live, because of its overly produced nature and tough vocals. After I introduced myself and my song I got the best comment of my life when Vishal Dadlani said, “Just by looking at you I can confidently put my money on you, because I see the light and glow on your face.” Damn…those words… I hadn’t even started singing at that point.”
I chose to fly for the first time ever in my life, to a city where I have never been before, where I had nobody. It was almost like gambling.”
While her stint on The Stage 2 was memorable, and has brought Arunaja well deserved recognition and fame, getting there wasn’t easy. She had given up hope of getting into The Stage 2, as she was unable to get any information on the audition process. But, at the very last minute she found out about the final audition in Mumbai. The audition being a day after her final exam, she had to take a flight to get there on time. Arunaja elaborates, “I chose to fly for the first time ever in my life, to a city where I have never been before, where I had nobody. It was almost like gambling. I belong to a middle-class family where my single mother takes care of me and my sister. When I told her that I want to go to Mumbai, she got paranoid, but being a rock-star herself she closed her RD account to get me the ticket to the city of dreams.” Despite the odds, it all worked out, because Arunaja was destined to be on The Stage 2.
Her success on The Stage 2 having opened many doors, Arunaja has lots lined up. “As of now I’m going to be touring as one of the top 4 of ‘The Stage 2’ around the country focusing on the ‘Hard Rock Cafes’. Will also be performing as a Brand/solo-artist – ARUNAJA.”
Talent, hard-work, and resolute faith are the weapons in Arunaja’s armoury. Living, laughing, and loving what she does, she is quite the inspiration for a Bold and Brave life.
