Fitness is more than just a goal weight or size. It’s a way of life: to be fit, healthy, and happy. And with that mission in mind, the couple Niran Ponnappa and Vasudha Aggarwal opened The Fit District. Aiming to create awareness about fitness and promote it as a lifestyle, The Fit District offers a number of Fitness Programs – Licensed CrossFit, Lesmills Programs, Anti-Gravity Yoga, Freestyle Classes like Bollywood Aerobics, Zumba, Sports Fit, Yoga, TRX, etc.; and even provides Nutrition Counselling, Personal Coaching, Bouldering, Sports Conditioning and Physiotherapy.
Main focus was delivering high quality fitness through personal training and not using machines to do it.”
A mutual passion for fitness brought Niran and Vasudha together. Niran was with Fitness First for 8 years until they shut down operations. Vasudha’s background is in arts, and it was her main profession until she met Niran at Fitness First. Today, she is a senior instructor for group exercises like Bollywood aerobics, Lesmills Body combat, yoga, and is even a certified CrossFit instructor. That many hats worn by one person, certainly inspiring!
What sets The Fit District apart from other fitness centres is their attitude towards their clients. They coach their clients into getting fit and healthy bodies. Not merely train them. As Niran explains, “A trainer would provide repetitive training. But as a coach you’re educating your client.” Niran further adds, “Lots of times centres just open up and urge people to get good bodies. But we are dealing with humans and not machines. Every human being is different and they need to be qualified enough to do it.” At The Fit District, the idea is to get people into shape, but holistically, and for the long run.
Make sure there are quality trainers. Don’t just choose trainers based on their bulked-up bodies. A small mistake can cause issues to the body.”
Despite being veterans in the field of fitness (over 10 years of experience each), Niran and Vasudha hit their share of roadblocks when coming up with the idea for The Fit District. Nirav says, “Conceptualisation did take them some time because the main focus was overall fitness, and not any one particular part of fitness. Main focus was delivering high quality fitness through personal training and not using machines to do it.” Additionally, it’s been challenging to convince people to try out non-traditional fitness methods that The Fit District offers. However, Niran and Vasudha’s extensive experience in the fitness industry has gained them popularity, and they have a good number of clients who appreciate their work and support it.
Given the number of fitness centres that keep cropping up, Niran offers this valuable piece of advice, “Make sure there are quality trainers. Don’t just choose trainers based on their bulked-up bodies. A small mistake can cause issues to the body.”
The Fit District is a haven for fitness enthusiasts looking to challenge themselves, and take up new and exhilarating forms of exercise. With professional coaches and nutritionists at hands, you can be assured that your fitness goals will be achieved in a manner that gives you a healthy body and sound mind.
