Diptarka Ghosh is multi-faceted and hasn’t shied away from exploring his diverse talents. Photographer, videographer, cinematographer, restaurateur, singer, and last but not the least stand-up comedian, he has tried his hand at all and been successful. He says, “I have always been interested in a lot of things and believe in the motto of never settling.”
There are good shows and bad ones. I have had many bad shows, and after each one you just have to push through and grow as a comedian. It’s always a learning process.”
Having grown up watching comedians like Russell Peters and Gabriel Inglesias, Diptarka was drawn to comedy from a young age. He says, “I was intrigued. I was always the class clown, and used to crack even my teachers up. Later, I met Kanan Gill who pushed me to try stand-up and also helped me write. I performed at my first open mic on December 9th, 2014 in Bangalore.”
From that first performance, Diptarka has come a long way. He has appeared in comedy videos and shared the stage with several celebrated comedians like Atul Khatri, Kanan Gill, Kenneth Sebastian, Zakir Khan, Jeeveshu Ahluwalia, and Biswa Kalyan Rath. Diptarka possesses the remarkable ability of relating to and making any type of crowd laugh, be it college going youngsters or an audience full of corporate employees. He talks of his versatile sense of humour saying, “I do self deprecation, improv, dark humour, music humour. My dream has always been to be an entertainer. I keep trying different things every time. I try to incorporate everything around me into comedy.”
Comedy is unpredictable, the audience could be in splits and applaud you, or they could treat you to a deafening silence. Knowing full well that there can be as many bad shows as there are good, Diptarka still puts his heart and soul into it. “There are good shows and bad ones. I have had many bad shows, and after each one you just have to push through and grow as a comedian. It’s always a learning process.” Diptarka shares a specific incident that had an unexpected outcome, “I had this show once in Mumbai where only 12 people turned up, and I was heartbroken. But, we did the show anyway and it turned out to be one of the best I have done till date. There are always moments, but you never know what is waiting on the other side. The best part is all the people that came to that show have become my regular audience in Mumbai.” A silver lining if ever there was one.
Don’t think so much, just do it. If you really love and enjoy what you want to pursue, and if you are honest to yourself, then nothing can stop you.”
Diptarka is hopeful of performing all over India and across the globe, while working on more videos and a movie even! Wouldn’t want to miss this all-round entertainer’s debut!
A man who has realised multiple different dreams, none of them being easy, Diptarka advises, “Don’t think so much, just do it. If you really love and enjoy what you want to pursue, and if you are honest to yourself, then nothing can stop you. You will have to be patient, and there are going to be lots of hardships, but once you get past all that, it gets really sweet.”
Diptarka Ghosh isn’t one to let a few failures hold him back. Reaching for the stars and getting there, is the way he rolls. Don’t let the fear of failing stop you from dreaming and making it big.
