Abhishek Dhawan-Patil is a drop out from college who founded a successful tech company that caters to all business requirements. “Feelsofts”, against all odds, managed to triumph in the technologically challenged town in Maharashtra called Baramati.
In the I.T business you don’t need funds; you need a working idea or a prototype. We started by building simple applications with three people and found a customer to use it.”
When others saw challenges and barriers in starting a technology based company in Baramati, Abhishek saw opportunity in this untapped market, so-much-so, that in spite of topping his college, he dropped out from engineering in his 2nd year, after starting off with some ground work on his company. And, the cherry on top, for him, was that his family was very supportive of the techie’s decision.
Not only has Abhishek tapped into a niche market, but his business has proven beneficial to those in the rural areas who are unaware of hi-tech applications. His vision was flawless, he says, “Since people are moving towards 2020 right now where everyone is expected to be technology prone. The I.T industry is not only works with high end technology, we also focus on creating simple applications that help the rural sector for their day to day activities.”
We also focus on creating simple applications that help the rural sector for their day to day activities.”
Feelsofts initially started with just software applications but has moved on to various other sectors in the eight years they’ve been in existence. The entrepreneur has now moved into in training, software, international conferences, and many more industries. This successful endeavor however, had humble beginnings. Starting off the company at a tender age of 18, the visionary had many challenges thrown his way. Starting off, he didn’t have any funds to work with. He coolly eradicates excuses that would cause most people to quit by saying, “In the I.T business you don’t need funds; you need a working idea or a prototype. We started by building simple applications with three people and found a customer to use it.” The small monetary incomes they made over the months were saved by Abhishek which, the entrepreneur sates abolished the need for funding.
Financial challenges aside, Abhishek also faced problems because he hardly had any experience in web applications and he didn’t even know how they worked. The techie recalls an incident with a client that almost forced him into calling it quits. He says, “One of our clients chose a web application and during the project, nothing went right. We had to build everything from scratch. The client had the deadline and everything was falling apart. That’s when I felt that this was it, the end.” Fortunately, because he and his partners had decided to stick it in, they consulted other veterans of the industry and laid the product before the client in the next 15 days.
Apart from creating applications, Abhishek is also involved in training students, mostly from rural areas, to give them a fighting chance to compete with the better informed crowd from the metropolitan cities. He also strongly believes that women in rural India are living in a regressive society by saying, “In rural India, a girl completes her education but doesn’t get the training she needs to go to a big company and work. Her mentality is that she should complete her education and get married.” To overcome this, Abhishek tied up with several rural colleges and started training women, and to take his passion for women empowerment even further; his company has an overwhelming majority of female employees.
Feelsofts is now envisioning being a global company by providing its services outside India as well; while simultaneously acquiring at least 1000 foreign clients.
Abhishek is a role model for students and budding entrepreneurs all over India. His story from rags to riches and commitment to better the rural area is what our nation needs.
