Although Amrita Samant liked her job in the Human Resource department, there was a constant desire in her to do something artistic with her life. During this phase in her life, photography started off as an interest to her, and she quickly capitalized on her newly discovered ambition. She parted ways with her career in Human Resources, and Amrita Samant decided to combine her love for two of her favorite things: photography and babies, and founded “Mommy Shots by Amrita”- a high quality photography service for maternity, newborn and toddlers.
While growing up, the photographer didn’t have many career options. In her head, she either had to be a doctor, lawyer or an engineer. However, she always had to have a creative outlet and dabbled into creative art forms like dancing, acting, writing and photography. Her close affiliation with photography began with her capturing pictures of her sister’s newly born twin babies and was a vivid and vibrant experience to watch them grow. She felt extremely comfortable with babies and started to view them more than just little human beings. The creative entrepreneur says, “It was a matter of time and a strong brain-wave to figure that I could combine both.”
The entrepreneur who believed that she had found her calling in life, had a lot of doubts and obstacles during her journey in creating “Mommy Shots”. Six months into it, the budding businesswoman had a poor month of business and was miserable like never before. Not knowing where she had gone wrong, she almost accepted failure and even contemplated quitting at this point. “In my first couple of months as an entrepreneur, I was filled with fear and paranoia of my efforts falling apart. I distinctly remember questioning my decisions on the road to being an entrepreneur,” says Amrita.

Fortunately, Amrita had tons of enthusiasm and passion for her endeavor, backed by her supportive circle of friends and family who motivated her to keep going. This urged her to focus on her business, strengths and the style and perception she wanted to convey to her customers, and that’s what really worked for her in the end. These efforts have perpetuated to all of her work she’s done so far, and has never had a rough month since. She says, “The portfolio I created helps me till date, when clients show me these images in particular and ask me to replicate them for their families. It only goes to show that perseverance and hard work really pay off when the times get tough.”
Amrita is now fully involved with her business and plans to expand quickly and effectively as soon as possible. She has hired more people and expanded her business internally to meet exponential demands that her company has produced. Apart from internal expansion, Amrita has also extended her lines of services by covering all baby-related and “Modern Storytelling” which involves spending a couple of hours a day with a family and capturing their daily routine with their child/baby being a part of their lives.
Do what makes you happy. If you are forced to do something you dislike, an inner-hatred starts to build and begins to creep into your character.”
It’s fair to say that Mommy Shots and Amrita Samant is a success and all motivated and passionate individuals can learn from her lessons. The one advice she would like to share to the word is, “Do what makes you happy. If you are forced to do something you dislike, an inner-hatred starts to build and begins to creep into your character. It won’t be long before you start to hate everything and everyone around you, including kith and kin.” In contrast, she say that doing what one loves will make them happy and their vibe will exude happiness and joy. And quite honestly, no one likes a grump!
