The Stroke Survivor Who Pumps Life Into Other Survivors

in Entrepreneur/Social by

After a devastating stroke in 2012, doctors gave up on Sharad Kumar merely due to the severity of the condition. He lost his voice for 3 years and has been paralyzed on his right side ever since. Having survived the traumatic disease, the challenge for the brave man was to rebuild his life. Sharad says, “After the stroke in 2012, I was not able to speak for the first 3 years, I used to nod my head, that’s it. Before the stroke, I used to be the life of the party, had a successful sales career and was recently appointed as a COO in an education company.”

Contrary to popular belief

Although stroke is a phenomenon that chiefly affects the inactive, Sharad was an exception. Side by side with his sales career, the survivor had an exceptionally active lifestyle. A swim for 30 minutes, followed by hitting the gym for another 30 minutes and ending off with a jog for 15 minutes was his daily routine on the weekdays. On the weekends, he would practice martial arts for 4 hours. Sharad also has a black belt in Karate and Ninjutsu.

Sharing his experience

The experiences of surviving a stroke inclined Sharad to write a book and start a website to help and stroke survivors in India. He says, “I wanted to start a website, primarily because of 3 reasons, i.e., the lack of a website that caters to a stroke survivor, to capture every stroke survivor story in India, and to teach them that perseverance, courage, and motivation can do wonders for their recovery.”

He’s an amazing person. I can’t even comprehend what he’s gone through, but the reason he’s overcome so much, is because of his ‘Attitude’. His Positive & Never-say-die attitude. That’s why I’m certain that against all odds he will cure himself completely. Irrespective, he lives a fuller life compared to most of us.
