The music industry is one place where the odds of getting some undivided attention are left to on chance and luck. Not letting these odds beat her, Mason Ashley let her love for song writing and singing become a part of her from a very young age, often letting it act as an outlet for her emotions and stories, similar to a form of therapy.
Music as a part of life
To Mason , music is life. When asked about her connection with music, she replies saying, “It is a colourful dramatization of otherwise average moments. It highlights everyday life and makes it something that the whole world can connect through… how powerful is that?” She believes that every generation has their own approach to music as it never stops changing or growing. Considering the number of songs that have been written over so many years, it’s amazing that people haven’t run out of ideas yet. With each passing generation, the future draws something from the past, adding in an element of their own and ending up with a new creative sound. Despite this, music can be a tough career path sometimes. She relates this to how she had been discouraged a few times over the years and remembers comparing herself to all the talented musicians she had looked up to. Her worry of not being good enough was soon wiped away as she realized that the coolest things about being a songwriter are, in fact, the differences. If every writer was similar, what would be the point of music?

Inspiration and Support
Having been blessed with an extremely supportive family that has never once questioned her career path or tried to push her in a different direction, Mason has been able to go far in her music career. Not only that, it’s definitive that they are her most loyal groupies, not having missed a single show of hers. With a family of so many influences, it’s no surprise that she would find it difficult to pick a single inspiration. Although, one person who has constantly been Mason’s inspiration is her grandpa who has always made her feel every word he says, making it her dream to be able to reach people like that. He’s also the one that kick started her musical journey and sparked her interest in writing when he gave her an old worn out, hand me down guitar when she was just nine years old.
Paving the way for other musical ventures
Being the creative soul that she is, Mason Ashley, began cosmetology school to become a hairdresser while finishing up her album in the studio. She will be releasing her new EP within the year and hopefully we will be getting some show dates on the books as well!
When it comes to advice for the aspiring, she adds, “Simply go for it. There are a million reasons not to do it… it’s not easy but it is absolutely worth it. The dream is worth every “no” and roadblock or fear of not being good enough. All of it is just part of the incredible journey.” Music is the most powerful thing in the world and being a part of it is truly inspirational. What an inspiring story for all the music enthusiasts out there.
