Accessories From Ishma Give Bling A New Boost

They say “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, and it’s a no-brainer why! A 1-carat solitaire sitting regally on a woman’s dainty finger, shining bright, sparkling white, crystal-clear, the perfect cut, only to make her feel even greater about herself, a little bling to brighten up her day even. On that note, we ‘bling’ to you, Ishma – bright, colourful, exquisite jewellery for the modern woman.

Introducing Ishma’s Design Divas

Vandyaa and Rekha are design graduates from NIFT Hyderabad with a thing for out of the box accessories. They worked for independent designers for two years before starting their own accessory design studio. The two would spend endless hours experimenting with various materials in college, take trips to craft clusters and hang out on the streets of Charminar to understand how beautiful things are made. Their days involved basking in the warm smell of Irani chai and Osmania biscuits surrounded by the glitz of coloured stones, metals and oodles of vintage remnants. Over time, the two design novices matured into two designer enthusiasts, crazy about giving people soulful accessories that carry a story and sometimes a bit of their culture and heritage.

The Rebirth Of Jewellery Design

Ishma means the season of spring which is reflected in their soulful and colourful accessories. It also means ‘rebirth’ which is connected with redesigning traditional Indian handicrafts that are on the verge of extinction. At Ishma, you can shop for bright, bold and colourful jewellery of quality for all occasions. Their collection includes anklets, bracelets, neckpieces, earrings and finger rings too.

Ishma also creates livelihood opportunities for handicraft artisans and gives a fresh form to the craft itself. All pieces from Ishma are handmade and all purchases made directly affect the rural ingenious artisans which, in turn, help the designers at the studio actualize their designs. Vandyaa and Rekha believe it is their responsibility to help talented struggling artisans in India in bettering their lives to create a brighter and more prosperous India.

The thought that we could put our design skills to better use, that we could use them to not only create opportunities for ourselves but also to many artisan families pushed us to start off on our own.”

When asked what triggered their inner entrepreneur, Vandyaa replies, “The thought that we could put our design skills to better use, that we could use them to not only create opportunities for ourselves but also to many artisan families pushed us to start off on our own.”

Rekha is a big fan of Delhi based fashion designer Manish Arora, who is also the first Indian designer to showcase his amazing collection at Paris Fashion Week for 10 years straight and counting, while Vandyaa humbly admits that she is her father’s fan. “We study current market trends, we study the handicraft, see how both can be put together and translated into usable products and thus, design our products.” Their families have been extremely supportive from the get-go and always encouraged them to do what makes them happy.

Other than jewellery design, the designer duo has started to expand into gifts and home decor. They are looking for tie-ups with boutiques and retailers from across the country. “This we believe will help us take more artisans into our team.”

The two bold and beautiful designers share with us two simple, straightforward and bold words of advice before signing off, “Plan and act”. Good things come in small packages and that’s what Ishma is all about. Bringing a bit of bling and a whole lot of happiness to women everywhere with their range of bright, colorful, bold and fabulous jewellery for all the bold and beautiful divas out there!
