It was always in Suresh Rangarajan’s DNA to learn about new ideas, new products, and new businesses. He always had a keen eye for new opportunities. Though born to a conservative Brahmin family, Suresh’s DNA was always about entrepreneurship and creating new companies with path-breaking ideas – like CoLive.
What Is CoLive All About?
CoLive solves the biggest problem for a busy young student, working professional or even a young couple. Managing a household is no joke, and that’s what CoLive aims to offer. A branded serviced home – long stay accommodation for the millennial so that they can focus on their studies or their professional life. A new city or town presents its own challenges. To add to that, the youth are living away from their homes for the first time, which is tough enough, so it’s essential to ensure that they have a fully serviced and managed home to make their move a pleasant one. CoLive, using technology as the backbone, offers stylish, safe and serviced homes at affordable prices.
My biggest inspiration comes from the youngsters that I hire and work with. Some of them have made me think hard; think totally out of the box and question the basics! I always consider them as people who make me stay alert!

The Genius Behind CoLive
Suresh says that the millennials are all about the experiences and not the assets. They want flexibility and do not want to be tied down. After a lot of research on social media and listening to where the chatter was about renting and not owning, Suresh realized that as a real estate developer, he was chasing the wrong market. People not wanting to own their own property didn’t mean that they would stop buying. It just meant that there was going to be a shakeout where the consumption was going to get de-linked from the purchaser. A category of investors who would buy-to-let was being formed. Investors would buy and put it on rent while consumers would take homes on rent and operators like CoLive would evolve. This got Suresh to jump at the CoLive opportunity.
Coexisting with CoLive
Suresh’s parents were initially distressed when he quit his cushy Citibank job and moved onto a startup way back in 2000 when startups weren’t so popular. They feared that he had lost his way and threw away a great job. But for Suresh, it was always about creating an impact in whatever he did. The big turning point was when he suffered a collarbone fracture and couldn’t go in to work at Citibank for almost two months. But that didn’t stop Citibank share prices from rising, and the bank did not miss him. That’s when he realized that he needed to be at a place where he could create and leave a massive impact. “I love being at the center of all the action and where the action revolves around me!” Suresh’s wife has been extremely supportive of him while putting up with all his rants of new ideas. Suresh keeps sharing his ideas with his son all the time. “In fact,” he says, “CoLive was born after intense brainstorming with my son!”
The Future for This Futuristic Home Solutions Company
“I would like to be remembered as the guy who used technology to solve a massive problem for millennials. A person who addressed the extremely underserved student market. The guy who offered a branded and standardized quality of living for students. I am on a mission – ‘MISSION MILLION’ – To rope in a million beds under management for CoLive!” It certainly doesn’t get bigger and bolder than this!
What’s Suresh’s take on entrepreneurship, being bold and going for the gold? “Go for it! You need passion to perform! It’s not rocket science; you just need common sense. It’s a rare commodity, but if you have it, then become an entrepreneur!” To those who thought successful careers couldn’t be made out of one’s love for fitness, Biki certainly did deliver a powerful punch!
